Botox is a neuromodulator that works below the dermis layer of the skin to smooth fine lines and deep wrinkles. It does this by blocking communication between nerves and muscles, preventing the repetitive muscle movement that creates wrinkles. This, in turn, reduces wrinkles.
Botox is most commonly used to treat fine lines along the upper lip, “crow’s feet” around the eyes, and wrinkles across the forehead. Treatments are quick — only about 15 minutes — and require no downtime. Patients will, however, experience about 30 minutes of redness in the injection area. It can take up to two weeks to notice the effect of smoother skin, which last 3-4 months.
