Who is a candidate for iLASIK?
The advanced iLASIK technology used at Valley Eye Associates has been FDA-approved to correct a wide range of prescriptions – whether you’re nearsighted, farsighted or have astigmatism. In general, to be a good candidate for iLASIK, you should:
At Valley Eye Associates, our surgeons specialize in a variety of vision correction procedures and you’ll experience the most extensive diagnostic testing available. If we find that you’re not a candidate for iLASIK, we may be able to recommend a procedure that is better suited for your eyes.
Does the iLASIK procedure hurt?
No, the actual procedure does not hurt. Your eyes will be numbed with eye drops prior to the procedure and you will be given a mild sedative to relax you. Some patients do experience mild discomfort during the first 12-24 hours, but this is typically just a minor annoyance, usually described as a "dirty contact lens" sensation. Our state-of-the-art, modern LASIK surgery center is warm, comfortable and patient friendly. We encourage you to bring a friend or a family member - you'll need a ride home, and they'll be able to watch your procedure!
How quickly will my eyes recover?
iLASIK recovery is amazingly fast. You should be able to see better within 1 – 2 hours after your treatment, but you’ll notice a more dramatic difference when you wake up the next day. Most people get back to their normal routine quickly – even returning to work the next day! You may need to avoid contact sports and swimming for 1 – 4 weeks. We will provide you with detailed post-op instructions and what is suitable for your individual needs.
Will I need to wear glasses after iLASIK?
Most patients who have iLASIK at Valley Eye Associates don’t need glasses for their daily activities. In fact, in the hands of Dr. Vrabec, the majority of our nearsighted patients see 20/20 or better following their procedure. However, patients who are over the age of 40 may still need to wear reading glasses because of the normal aging process of the eye. This condition, known as presbyopia, progresses as we get older. For qualified candidates, we offer Monovision LASIK, which can lessen the dependence on reading glasses. You will speak with our doctors at your evaluation to review your options and decide what is right for you.
What are the risks of iLASIK?
In the hands of an experienced surgeon like Dr. Vrabec, iLASIK is a very safe procedure. The most experienced iLASIK surgeon in Wisconsin, Dr. Vrabec has performed over 22,000 refractive procedures, with over 95% of his nearsighted patients seeing 20/20 or better! However, as with any surgical procedure, there are risks, and these will be discussed with you at the time of your evaluation in detail.
Is iLASIK affordable?
We believe that iLASIK should be affordable for any budget – and that’s why we offer a variety of financing options. You will speak with a patient counselor at your appointment who will help you find a plan that works best for you. In addition, many patients are happy to hear that FSA’s (Flexible Spending Accounts) can be used for iLASIK, for additional savings.
