Valley Eye Associates has an expert team of ophthalmologists and optometrists to treat all of your eye care needs.
Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is a deterioration of the eye’s macula. The macula is the center of the retina which is responsible for our ability to read and recognize faces. Many people are not aware they have macular degeneration until they experience a noticeable loss of vision or the condition is detected during a routine eye exam.
There are two forms of AMD: wet AMD and dry AMD. For patients suffering from dry AMD, daily use of an Amsler Grid is a vital part of monitoring this condition. A patient can detect changes in macular degeneration with home use of an Amsler Grid. Print your own grid here.
For patients suffering from wet AMD, Valley Eye Associates offers a variety of treatments to slow its progression including Avastin, EYLEA and others. Early detection of wet AMD is important because, while we can help slow its progress, there is no cure for wet AMD.
Valley Eye Associates offers four main treatments for AMD:
Avastin is a medicine injected directly into the eye that can slow the growth of blood vessels in the retina that lead to the progression of AMD.
EYLEA is an anti-vascular endothelial growth factor (anti-VEGF) treatment that is given by injection into the eye. This treatment can slow the progression of AMD.
CentraSight Intraocular Lens Implant
CentraSight is a new treatment program that uses a tiny telescope implanted inside the eye to improve vision and quality of life for patients with advanced, end-stage AMD.
Iluvien is used to treat diabetic macular edema. It can be effective for up to three years.
